April brings a different kind of momentum across the housing and skills landscape. Conversations are becoming more focused, expectations are becoming clearer, and the pace of change is continuing to build.
From the growing weight of housing regulation through to developments in skills reform, there is a consistent thread running through it all. Organisations are being asked to respond with greater confidence, stronger capability and more structured workforce planning.
Alongside this, we are continuing to support practical conversations across the sector, from our involvement in Conflict Resolution Week 2026 to the ongoing development of wellbeing resources for learners and employers.

The Rising Tide of Regulation for Housing Associations
Housing associations are now operating in an environment where regulatory change is arriving from multiple directions at once, each with its own expectations, timelines and operational impact.
In her latest thought leadership article, Sara Roberts explores what this means in practice, and why workforce development is becoming central to how organisations respond. From Awaab’s Law and the Competence and Conduct Standard through to STAIRs and the Decent Homes Standard, the focus is shifting away from policy alone and towards the capability, confidence and judgement of the people delivering services day to day.
The article highlights a key point for the sector. Compliance is no longer something that can sit separately from operational delivery. It depends on whether teams can interpret change, make sound decisions under pressure and evidence those decisions clearly.
If you are currently reviewing how your organisation is preparing for regulatory change, this piece offers a clear, practical perspective on what readiness really looks like.
Stress Awareness Month – Supporting Wellbeing in Practice
April marks Stress Awareness Month, creating an opportunity to reflect on how wellbeing is supported across teams and organisations.
For many working across housing, construction and public services, pressure is part of the reality of the role. What makes the difference is how that pressure is recognised, managed and supported over time.
At Kingdom Academy, our Mental Health Toolkit has been developed to provide practical, accessible support that can be used alongside learning and within the workplace. It includes:
- Tools to help manage stress and maintain balance
- Resources to support resilience and wellbeing
- Guidance to encourage open, constructive conversations within teams
Wellbeing is not something separate from performance. It underpins it. When people feel supported, they are better able to make decisions, communicate clearly and sustain their contribution over time.
The toolkit is available to all staff and learners. To access you will need your password, please speak to your tutor or contact the team if you are not sure what it is.
Supporting Conflict Resolution Week 2026
We are proud to be sponsoring the Conflict Resolution Week 2026 toolkit in partnership with ADR Mediation, supporting practical, sector-led conversations about communication, professionalism and confidence in practice.
Across housing and public services, the ability to manage conflict well is increasingly recognised as a core professional skill. It shapes outcomes, relationships and service delivery, particularly in complex or high-pressure situations.
The toolkit has been designed to help teams approach these situations with greater clarity and confidence. It provides structured activities and practical resources that can be used within teams to reflect on real scenarios and strengthen day-to-day practice.
Conflict Resolution Week is now underway, with activity taking place across the sector including webinars, training sessions and local initiatives. It is encouraging to see the level of engagement and the conversations already being created.
If you have not yet explored the resources, there is still time to get involved and make use of the toolkit within your organisation.
New Programme Launch – CIH Level 4 Certificate in Managing Housing Maintenance
We are excited to be getting ready to launch the Chartered Institute of Housing Level 4 Certificate in Managing Housing Maintenance.
This is a programme designed for those leading or stepping into responsibility for repairs and maintenance, with a strong focus on the day to day reality of managing performance, budgets, compliance and service delivery.
With increasing pressure around property standards, asset management and regulatory expectations, there is a growing need for teams who feel confident making decisions, managing services and delivering consistently high standards. This qualification is built to support exactly that.
We are currently finalising delivery plans and will be opening enrolments shortly.
If you would like to be first to hear when places open, including full details on structure and start dates, simply reply to this email and we will add you to the priority list.
Supporting Confident, Capable Teams
Across everything this month, one theme continues to come through clearly. The importance of building capability in a way that is structured, practical and aligned to what organisations are navigating day to day.
From regulatory change through to skills reform and wellbeing, the focus remains the same. Supporting people to develop confidence, judgement and professionalism in their roles.
For many organisations, this is not about doing more. It is about being more deliberate in how development is planned and delivered.
If you are reviewing your current approach or planning ahead for the year, we are always happy to support that conversation.
