At Kingdom Academy, we are proud to celebrate the success of our learners, and this year we’re thrilled to announce that Eve Jakeman, Housing & Property Management Level 3 Apprentice at West Lancashire Borough Council, has been named CIH Apprentice of the Year.
Eve’s story is one of grit, growth and generosity. She is a clear example of the kind of impact an apprenticeship can have, not only on an individual but also on a workplace and the wider community.
From Newcomer to Natural Talent
Eve joined the apprenticeship programme with no prior experience in housing. She quickly proved that attitude and willingness to learn can go a long way. By spending time across Income, Lettings and Property Management, she explored all areas with curiosity and drive. It was in the fast-moving Repairs Team where she truly found her feet. Her ability to adapt, take initiative and grow in confidence has been remarkable.
Leading Through Support
Eve’s journey has not just been about her own development. She has consistently supported her peers, becoming a reliable source of guidance and encouragement. Two fellow apprentices in the workplace benefited directly from her support, and many others have turned to her with questions and concerns. Eve helped create a learning culture where asking for help felt welcome. That sort of peer leadership leaves a lasting impression.
Creating Change Beyond the Role
What makes Eve stand out even further is her commitment to the community. She played a key role in a resident involvement project, helping to plan and deliver events that strengthened relationships and improved engagement. Her collaborative work across departments helped those events run smoothly and achieve meaningful results. This kind of contribution shows how apprentices can be real drivers of positive change.
Focused and Future-Ready
Eve has shown outstanding commitment to her future. She took her preparation for the End-Point Assessment to another level, completing mock assessments and asking for adapted questions to deepen her understanding of key areas such as housing history and legislation. Her approach was focused, proactive and clearly aimed at long-term success.
Facing Challenges with Resilience
Throughout her apprenticeship, Eve also had to navigate personal challenges, including periods of low confidence and anxiety. What stands out is how she responded. She built her own support strategies, sought out extra practice, and actively worked to boost her confidence. Feedback from her assessments has been both positive and developmental, and she has used it to keep improving. Her resilience is a strength that will continue to serve her well.
Real Impact, Clear Progression
Eve’s achievements have already had a tangible impact at work. Her 12-month Resident Events Plan is a great example. She did not just take part, she led the planning and delivery, helping to build lasting engagement with the local community. Her ability to take ownership and deliver outcomes has made a real difference, and has also helped to shape her future career path.
