Who Is This Programme For?
This Modern Apprenticeship is aimed at those working in operative roles across construction and civil engineering who want to gain a nationally recognised qualification while continuing to develop on site. It is suitable for learners working as general construction operatives, concrete finishers, modular pavement installers, formwork carpenters or shuttering joiners, as well as those operating plant such as dumpers and excavators. The programme is also suited to individuals who want to formalise their existing skills, progress to higher-level SVQs, or access further training and apprenticeships within the construction and civil engineering sector.

Strengthen Your Skills & Step Forward In Construction
Delivered entirely in the workplace and supported by one-to-one assessor guidance, this qualification combines core construction competences with specialist skills in civil engineering operations. It equips learners with the knowledge and ability to work safely, productively, and to industry standards, covering essential areas such as health and safety, teamwork, and practical site operations.
The mandatory units include:
Install, maintain and remove work area protection and safety equipment
Conform to general workplace health, safety and welfare
Conform to productive work practices
In addition to the mandatory units, learners will complete one of several specialist pathways, tailored to their current job role. Options include modular pavement construction, kerb and channel laying, drainage construction, structural concreting, general construction operations, or excavation and reinstatement. These pathways develop role-specific competence in tasks such as placing and compacting concrete, installing drainage systems, laying kerbs, reinstating ground conditions, or constructing modular pavements.
Together, these units ensure learners gain both the core skills and the specialist knowledge required to evidence their competence, progress their career, and achieve recognition through the Skilled Worker CSCS Blue Card.
