Who Is This Programme For?

Core Competence Development

The SVQ is made up of mandatory units that cover the essential competences required for technical and supervisory roles. These ensure learners can plan work, manage resources, maintain safety, coordinate teams, and deliver quality on construction projects.

It covers mandatory units in planning, health and safety, quality, and resource management, alongside specialist routeways in site supervision (building & civil engineering, highways, residential) or controlling lifting operations.

This programme is aimed at site supervisors, assistant site managers, section supervisors, highways maintenance supervisors, residential development supervisors, and lifting operations supervisors who want to gain a nationally recognised qualification while continuing to work on site.

Core topics include workplace health and safety, planning work, monitoring progress, controlling quality and costs, and coordinating teams. Learners also complete units specific to their chosen routeway.

This is a work-based qualification, so all learning takes place through your day-to-day role, guided by a dedicated assessor. You will have regular one-to-one sessions (online or on site) to review progress, receive feedback, and plan your evidence. Learning is supported by professional discussions, guidance on best practice, and tailored resources, with all assessment activity designed to fit around your work commitments.
